I wasn’t sure if I wanted to have business cards until I had the idea for the “literal game changer” business card.
Once upon a time, my friend Yesuigen threw down an Uno reverse card in the middle of a game of Scout. She had carried it around in secret, waiting for the perfect moment to drop it on us.
I burst out laughing—I’d seen the memes and even used it in an ambush myself but it was the first time I’d been on the wrong end of it.
Mad props, Yesu.
For my business card I printed the Uno reverse card on one side and my contact info on the other.
But I didn’t stop there.
I wanted to include cards from other games I love.
I also knew I wanted to include the Monopoly card from Catan. That one fits the idea of “game changer” in three ways:
- If you time it right, that card is really powerful.
- The description is fairly flexible and could be played in other games.
- The title of the card Monopoly is yet another game.
For a while, I was considering running with that last point: cards with names of other games. Slay the Spire 2 has a card called Juggling and Gloomhaven has King of the Hill.
But I decided to go with a combination of #1 and #2, a powerful card that you could reasonably play in other games so you can ambush your friends.
Despite the hours I’ve spent ascending Slay the Spire 2 I had to do some research to pick a card from that game. I’ve only had the opportunity to use Wish a handful of times—it’s super rare—but it’s a killer card especially in the end game and the description makes sense in a lot of other games, too.
For the observant Slay the Spire 2 fan, you might notice I adjusted the wording slightly to make it a little more broadly applicable.
