Too Many Bee Game Ideas

·241 words·2 mins

Okay, where are we at with this bee game?

Currently, there’s a single level that’s been blocked out with placeholder art.

There are a bunch of things to work on.

  • Improve the artwork overall.
  • Add a title screen. Need a title, first!
  • New flowers with different gathering mechanics
    • Lily or something you need to climb into
    • Tall strand with small flowers on each side.
    • Cluster of 4-8 walkable flowers.
    • Cluster of 4-8 hoppable flowers.
    • Sunflower to climb like Mario on a fence.
  • Add hopping mechanic for nearby flowers.
  • Between levels screen. This needs design on paper first.
    • Show pollen collected.
    • Spend on exploration.
    • Spend on upgrades.
    • Start a level.
  • Add a dash mechanic.
  • Add a loop-de-loop mechanic.
  • Make a fence with a hole to fly through.
  • Make garden ornaments (bird bath, bird house, wind chimes, fountain)
  • Make a green house with a special entrance and pots with lots of different flowers.
    • Hint at the greenhouse in background art.

Reckon the most important thing right now is having a few different types of flowers.

I’ve got a lot of ideas but I need to remember to keep the scope small. Maybe I should set some constraints.

One level. Max 2 minutes of play. No procgen. Max 5 types of flowers.

Player just side scrolls to the beehive and that’s the end. Then I do the artwork and sound and music and polish. Just make something tiny and get it out the door.
